I had the flu, now have a phlegmy, mucus-y cough?

I had the flu for 2 or 3 days, and first I had a fever and sore throat, then I was nauseous and dizzy, but this morning I woke up to a very sore throat and coughing. I took some cough drops (which I now know wasn't a good thing) but the mucus makes it hard for me to breathe sometimes especially while I'm coughing and I especially can't laugh. I have these coughing fits randomly. I coughed up a brown nickel or quarter sized ball of phlegm in the shower this morning in the shower. I'm not a smoker
