Is the world really going to end in 2012?

I've been hearing a lot about the world ending in 2012 and at first I thought it was nothing but now I'm getting a little worried because I heard something on the History Channel about how the alignment of the planets will cause a famine and we will all die of starvation. Is this accurate? Does anyone have any evidence of what is really going to happen or is this another Y2K type scare?
