I NEED HELP!! 10 POINTS!?

Ok I just got this phone my friend had given me. Its a prepaid verizon blitz and he gave it to me fwith $40 already on it. He said nights and weekends are free but nights are free after 9:01 and end at 5:59 But when I text people it charges me everytime. Only calling if free. Now I only have like $2 left because I was unaware it was charging me. Please help me Is it on certain days I can text for free or what?
